How Many Types of Ford Trucks Are There?

In the USA used car market, you may find a variety of Ford trucks in different trims. But in general, there are five models which differ in setting and work level.

Ford Ranger

Red Ford Ranger
Blue Ford Ranger

The Ford Ranger mid-size pickup truck debuted in 1982. It eventually became the most popular car in the US. Since the start of production, the pickup has undergone many changes. Throughout many years, it has improved, turning from a utilitarian unsightly pickup truck into a stylish vehicle, beloved by many drivers.

The main advantage of the Ford Ranger truck is its versatility: you can comfortably use it both for commercial and private needs. The Ford Ranger has a roomy body, which is 211 inches long and 78 inches wide. In these parameters, the pickup truck surpasses many of its classmates, including the Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara, Mitsubishi L200, and Volkswagen Amarok.

The cabin has special fastening loops that make it easier to fix the cargo and a folding loading platform that can withstand weights up to 1,860 pounds. It can tow a trailer weighing up to 3.5 tons, and the total mass of the car and trailer can reach 6 tons.

Other figures are no less impressive: the 4×2 drivetrain models have a clearance of 8.4 inches, while the 4WD models have an 8.9-inch clearance. The double cab option for second-row passengers has cup holders located in the central box – a very rare option for cars of this class. There is also enough room for small loads behind the backs of the rear seats.

The Ford F-150 is a full-size truck, one of the long-lived models, which has become the brand’s best-selling car in its sixty-year history. This model is the most popular in the F-Series pickup family. In its name, the letter “F” means Ford, and “150” – the load capacity of a pickup truck – 1500 pounds.

Despite its popularity, the F-150 is hardly a good choice for someone using a car to get to work in Indianapolis and to have picnics outside the city on weekends. But for wilderness excursions that require sports or hiking equipment, construction or repair work or maintenance of your farmland, this pickup is a great choice. You may fit everything in the cargo platform or, using its exceptional cross-country ability, organize uninterrupted delivery of any cargo along the shortest off-road route.

The F-250 first appeared in 1953, replacing the first generation of pickup trucks called the F-2. Its payload is 2 462 – 4 323 pounds.

The Ford F-250 line combines maximum capability with state-of-the-art technology and amenities. The spectrum of pickups ranges from refined, almost luxury models to heavy-duty trucks. Streamlined shapes predominate in the body. The absence of angularities and sharp transitions has a positive effect on the appearance and aerodynamic properties of the vehicle.

You may find this heavyweight in XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum trims. The XL and XLT models are unlikely to be seen in parking lots of shopping centers or beauty salons. They are real workhorses. The top-end King Ranch and Platinum look natural in front of large office buildings. Several powertrain options allow you to choose the aspect you need – payload, towing, endurance, or comfort. One of the buyers’ favorites is the diesel 6.7-liter turbo engine, as well as the proven 6.2-liter V8.

Ford F-350 pickups were built for people who need more than just a half-ton truck. That is, for those who regularly tow heavy trailers, or use a pickup truck as a work vehicle in construction, transportation, and other areas. In essence, the Ford F-250, F-350, and F-450 are tools on wheels. They can also be equipped with two rear wheels.

While heavyweights from Chevrolet, Nissan, GMC, and Ram offer good towing capacity, the Ford Super Duty holds the palm, hauling 37,000 lbs when equipped with a gooseneck hitch. In addition, the F-350 has one of the most refined cabins in the segment with its massive yet lightweight aluminum body.

With 6.2-liter V8 petrol or a 6.7-liter V8 diesel engine, the Ford-350 has no problem with torque reserves. By full-size pickup truck standards, this model accelerates well and easily outruns other vehicles at high speeds. And the available adaptive steering system reduces driver effort when maneuvering at low speeds.

The characteristics of a used Ford F350 will please those who want to get a working car but are not ready to sacrifice comfort.

Ford F-450

Ford F-450 pickup truck is a reliable assistant in hard work. This five or six-seat full-size pickup is available in a four-door, two-row version. The giant is equipped with dual rear wheels. Under the hood, it has powerful V8 and V10 engines.

The F-450 truck is almost the only passenger vehicle designed to carry and tow such heavy loads. Although the car was released back in 2009, its dizzying capabilities are still amazing. With a carrying capacity of 3 tons, it can take 10 tons in tow. The pickup’s closest rival is the Dodge Ram 3500.

The standard towing mode of the gearbox helps the pickup truck overcome slopes. But, like all cars with similar dimensions, its movements are leisurely. The steering lacks balance, which impairs maneuverability in difficult sections of the road. In addition, the ride quality deteriorates significantly if the vehicle is driven without a load. At 266 inches long and 96 inches wide, it will be a real disaster for the Indianapolis traffic. With a turning radius of average 25 feet, it blocks the entire crossroad.
